“Uncle Pen” | Bill Monroe – Bluegrass Rhythm Guitar Lesson


A brand new lesson video on the classic Bill Monroe tune “Uncle Pen”! This trad tune is a great example of bluegrass strumming. This song was first recorded by Bill Monroe who used to play this song every night. This song has also been covered extensively over the years notably by Ricky Skaggs and even Leon Russel, at one point reaching #1 on the Billboard charts in 1984. In this lesson, we’ll take a look at the iconic bluegrass “G Run” at the beginning of “Uncle Pen” as well as the strumming technique use to create a rhythmic ‘pulse’. The lesson also incudes 3 backing tracks at 80, 100 and 120 BPM.
